ADAC and BHG start quality initiative for motorbikers

HOTEL MEINL / Neu-Ulm. They are perfect hosts and passionate motorbikers - and that´s why bikers enjoy staying at their hotels so much. For making these qualities more popular, the ADAC in bavaria and the bavarian hotel- and restaurant association DEHOGA Bayern e.V. have started a certification initiative. The program, which is up to increase the interest in Bavaria as a motorbike-country, is new to the german tourism: consistent quality- and equipment standards garantuee that motorbikers will find perfectly fitting care and facilities for their needs in the certificated businesses. About 40 hotels and restaurants fit the criteria and have received the label "Motorbike friendly hotel and restaurant". "In tourism, a clear targeting in order to differentiate oneself from other contractors is really necessary. At least a comfortable, relaxed ambiance helps support the motorbikers security - because a winding one-day tour with hundreds of kilometers requests the drivers full concentration and efficiency", said Dr. August Markl, chairman of the ADAC Southern Bavaria, at the projects presentation in Neu-Ulm.

Quality counts

The motorbike-certification of ADAC Northern and Southern Bavaria and the BHG sets an example on the booming motorbike market with 3,4 million drivers all over germany, being an attractive touristic segment with a lot of potential for Bavaria. In former times the motorbike has just been used as means of transportation - today it is an expression of upscale lifestyle and enjoyment. As a consequence of that, the claims for an biker-holiday have increased. The scale reachs from secure placing for the vehicles to the culinary and comfort-claims of a one-star hotel. That´s why the hotels, which want to be recommended by ADAC and BHG, have to have parking lots for motorbikes and a drying possibility for wet cloth.

Furthermore there have to be free tour suggestions for the region, tips for excursions, roadmaps and useful adresses. Most of the owners and hosts are passionate bikers themeselves and know from their own experience, what bikers need. The award is only valid for a three year term and extended only after a new testing of the hotel.
